Loewe Unveils Destination Shop at Taikoo Li Chengdu
Loewe has unveiled a new chapter in its China retail story with its Loewe Gaozhai boutique that sits within the Taikoo Li Chengdu retail complex.
Formerly the home of Qing dynasty literati Gao Delin, the historic courtyard house, which features grey bricks, column carvings, and delicate tiled roofs, was restored and folded into the landmark Taikoo Li project when it opened in 2014.

The stand-alone store, which boosts 7,240 square feet and spans two levels, is modeled after creative director Jonathan Anderson’s Casa Loewe retail concept and brings together Spanish and Chinese influences.
Upon entering the store, shoppers will be greeted by an open-air garden where a pitched roof perfectly frames the skyline. Inside the airy store, handmade ceramic tiles in a rich palette of blue, silver, purple, white and green jump into sight, and are complemented by materials including marble, oak and brass.
Berin Club chairs, a series of George Nakashima Mira chairs, carpets based on artist John Allen’s abstract landscapes, alongside Loewe’s now-signature leather benches, transmit a sense of warmth and intimacy to the destination shop.
The store also features a special display of the Loewe x Lynda Benglis jewelry collection, as well as designs unveiled at this year’s Salone del Mobile, including the Hafu Matsumoto woven Hammock bag and Kay Sekimachi’s interpretation of the Puzzle tote and Bucket bag.
Anderson hand-picked works by the Loewe Craft Prize’s two Chinese finalists to outfit the space, including Wanbing Huang‘s fibrous hanging installation and Lu Bin’s stoneware vases.
Additional art and craft pieces include paintings by Walter Price and Cecelia Edefalk, ceramics by Laia Arqueros, and a bronze work by Lynda Benglis, which was a part of the women’s spring 2024 collection runway showcase.
The Gaozhai boutique is Loewe’s third in Chengdu. The brand currently counts 41 doors in mainland China.
