I can confidently say that bleaching my hair is one of my biggest beauty regrets. I’ve now converted back to brunette, but I'm still dealing with the aftermath. My hair is thin, but after processing, it’s the dryness and frizz that I battle with the most.

Finding the best products to tame volume is now my speciality – and while I’ve tried many products, none of them live up to the Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray. It has remained a loyal product in my routine for years.

I first came across this now iconic silver bottle when I saw it trending on social media, boasting a monumental 140.7 million views on TikTok. I snapped one up to try it for myself and can confirm that it’s deserving of all its hype.

Since I picked up Dream Coat, it has remained a key pillar of of my haircare routine. Hands down, Dream Coat is the easiest fix for creating a sleek style that lasts – not to mention its ability to smooth texture and create a light-reflecting gloss. Really, with this hero in your beauty arsenal, the need to step into a salon greatly diminishes (minus the frequent trims, of course).

But the most enticing part of all? The Dream Coat spray waterproofs my hair – and that's no exaggeration. Perfect for this seasonable gloom, applying Dream Coat is like guarding myself with a rain jacket. I no longer need to worry about battling UK weather as my hair is now immune to all kinds of drizzle. In fact, the water-resistant properties are so impressive that you can drop water onto your lengths and it will bead and roll off.

So, how does the magic work? Well, the spray uses a polymer technology to create an impervious seal over your hair; this is designed to fight humidity and lock down flyaways. However, fully unmasking its frizz-smoothing prowess comes down to how you style your hair. When you blow dry your hair with Dream Coat, water starts to evaporate, which then fuses the polymer molecules together. It’s this matrix that creates a strong humidity and water barrier.

While my hair is fine and frizzy, Dream Coat will also work on thick, curly or coarse hair types. If yours is especially dehydrated, you can also opt for the brand’s Extra Strength iteration of Dream Coat: it’s formulated with additional moisturising ingredients to protect hair that’s constantly thirsty.

The best application method is to section out damp lengths before saturating them in Dream Coat – and by saturation, I mean saturation. In fact, this is where most people fall faulty: to ensure that each strand of hair is wrapped up in the polymer technology, you’ve got to give your hair a good soaking.

To be transparent, this is the part of Dream Coat that I’m not so keen on. Yes, the brand lives up to its claims – no matter how much product you apply, your hair will never feel greasy, nor will Dream Coat leave any residue – but, to unlock the full potential of the spray, you must apply a liberal layer. Nonetheless, a little bit goes a long way: one bottle lasts me four to five months.

Don’t just take it from us beauty buffs, though, as Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez all share the same affinity for Dream Coat. You can also let the hundreds of 5* reviews to do the talking. One customer called it “liquid gold, bottled” while another said, “I have very coarse hair, and nothing makes it feel as good as Dream Coat”.

I can say with some certainty that investing in a bottle of Dream Coat will grant you the kind of shine and salon-like swish crafted by professionals only. Realistically, my hair never looks quite as impressive as Jennifer Lopez’s (and I certainly don’t have a glam squad to help me out), but the glossy results are undeniable and enough for me to recommend Dream Coat to all my friends, family and anyone I pass on the street.
