Lip reader spots sweet moment between Princess Charlotte and Kate Middleton at memorial service

Watch: William, Kate, George and Charlotte attend Philip’s memorial

Yesterday marked an emotional day for the Royal Family, who came together to remember Prince Philip almost one year on from his passing. But, amongst the sadness there was a sweet moment shared between Princess Charlotte and mum Kate Middleton, according to a lip reader who spotted it.

To recap, members of the monarchy – including the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William – attended a memorial service at Westminster Abbey on 29 March to celebrate the life of the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away on 9 April last year (during which time the UK was still adhering to COVID-19 restrictions and as such, his funeral did not see the usual pomp and ceremony that comes with a royal passing).

Fans tuning in to watch the service were surprised to see Prince George and Princess Charlotte attend yesterday's memorial with their parents – who, notably, looked all grown up. As the foursome arrived, six-year-old Charlotte was visibly nervous and turned to Kate for support who leaned in and whispered: "You can smile."

Speaking to the Mail Online, lip reading expert Jacqui Press shared details of the sweet moment she had spotted, as well as revealing the role Prince William played in ensuring Prince George felt comfortable too. "Let's go in," Press claims the Duke of Cambridge said to his son before guiding him into the Abbey and introducing him to waiting attendees. According to the expert, Prince William gave his son a run through of all the important people at the service, as well as what their roles are, including the bishops and other clergy members.

Once the Cambridges were in their seats, royal fans watching at home spotted another memorable moment themselves – pointing out Princess Charlotte's hilarious reaction after catching a glimpse of herself on camera. "The look when you see yourself on TV," tweeted one viewer with a clip of the moment in question.

Elsewhere in the Abbey, the Queen sat alongside her relatives, after weeks of speculation as to whether she would attend the service due to her declining health. Ahead of the event, Buckingham Palace were reportedly planning a 'military-style' operation when it came to how Her Majesty would arrive at the memorial.

"The Queen has told her staff that she doesn’t want to use a wheelchair but they can give her assistance," an insider said. "She can get out of the car in private with her walking stick and there are efforts being made to keep photographers away."
