Lionesses Alessia Russo and Mary Earps wow at The Best FIFA Football Awards
The Lionesses were out in full force last night (Monday 15 January) at The Best FIFA Football Awards held at The Apollo Theatre in London. The annual awards ceremony honours the most outstanding people in the sport, and this year's event saw the likes of Alessia Russo, Mary Earps, Lucy Bronze, Ella Toone, Kiera Walsh, Alex Greenwood and Lauren James all selected as part of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World 11. An impressive achievement, especially as members of the England women's squad comprised over half of the spots.
The award was voted for by over 28,000 professional footballers from 69 countries judging the performances of their fellow female football players. To qualify for the award, players must have made at least 25 appearances in official matches from 1 August 2022 to 20 August 2023.
With fashion and football coming together at the glitzy event, the Lionesses all made sure to dress for the occasion.
Alessia Russo and Mary Earps both opted for on-trend ensembles. While Alessia tapped into naked dressing thanks to her David Koma sheer black knit dress decorated with crystal embellishment, the goalkeeper – fresh of her BBC Sports Personality of Year Award win –donned her favourite colour in a stunning red gown with a plunging neckline, thigh-high leg slit and cut-outs at the side.
Meanwhile, suiting proved popular for the rest of the squad. Lucy Bronze showed off her toned arms in an off-white high-neck waistcoat and wide-leg trouser co-ord. She added tan strappy sandals for a summery look that had us longing for sunny skies.
Alex Greenwood also mixed it up in a double-breasted blazer with a statement train worn over a white shirt and tie. She slicked back her long blonde hair and added gold sculptural earrings to add extra drama.
Elsewhere, Lauren James looked sharp in a Gucci suit with Keira Walsh nailing the oversized dressing look in a grey suit complete with trousers featuring a second waistband designed to look like boxers sitting above her waist.
And finally, Ella Toone looked ready to party in a nude jumpsuit featuring a sequinned zebra pattern and feathered shoulders.
Other winners on the night included Sarina Wiegman who took home the Best Women's Coach trophy.
All in all, we'd say a *very* successful night for the Lionesses.
