Line of Duty star in state of 'financial terror' following sudden death of filmmaker ex-husband
Anna Maxwell Martin, who is known for starring in dramas such as Line Of Duty and Bleak House, has candidly opened up about her financial fears after the death of her ex-husband, Roger Michell, in 2021. Filmmaker Roger died suddenly aged 65 just a year after the couple announced their separation.
And with Anna sharing two children; Maggie, 15, and Nancy, 13, with Roger, she admits it was a scary time financially as she became their sole parent. "My husband died three years ago and things were really difficult on every aspect of our lives. One of those was that there's a lot of stuff that comes with grief, and one of them is financial terror. And then there are real practicalities around your children and their mental health, and supporting them, which is your priority," she said while talking with the BBC Women's Hour.

She added: "Looking back, I was probably in a state of shock, and fear, and a heightened state, for a long time actually, until very recently."
Roger's passing wasn't Anna's first brush with grief, as she also suffered tragedy aged 24 when her dad passed away - something which she admits has helped her deal with Roger's death. Admitting that she 'has to keep it together for the kids', Anna admitted she felt she had to 'keep the motor chugging'.
Anna first met Roger - who directed Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant hit Notting Hill - when he cast her in a National Theatre production. He was 20 years her senior and divorced with two children, however she pursued him despite the fact he was not initially interested. She previously told You Magazine: “I groomed him to fall in love with me.”
Marrying in 2002, the couple then parted ways 18 years later, with Anna saying of the split: "But you know we aren’t together any more. Our marriage has ended and we’ve been separated for quite some time. I haven’t really spoken about it because it isn’t fair on all the people involved.
"There are four children to think about. It’s taken an enormous amount of time, but we are all getting through it in a healthy way."
Now, Anna is in a relationship with camera operator Richard Cornelius and often shares loved up snaps to Instagram with her beau. The pair are thought to have been an item since 2022 and reportedly met while filming the Sky series Code 404
