Is Line Of Duty finally returning for series 7?
Ever since that explosive finale episode of Line Of Duty aired on BBC One in May 2021 (to 12.8m people, no less), the question on everyone’s mind has been whether there will be another series.
The police drama, which, to this day, is the most watched British drama of the 21st century, kept us on the edge of our seats for six seasons as superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) tried to uncover the mole in the police force known only as H.
Now, it’s been revealed that the show’s trio of stars recently met with show creator Jed Mercurio to chat seriously about making a seventh season happen. At last!
A source told The Sun: “Jed is close to Vicky, Martin and Adrian and they often meet for dinner – this time it was different. A topic of conversation was how they could align their schedules in 2025 to ensure Line of Duty 7 happens. The ambition is filming could start next year and on screens by early 2026.”
This isn’t the first time any of the LOD gang have discussed their hopes to bring a seventh series to screen. In our August 2024 issue, Adrian Dunbar told Good Housekeeping, “We all want another series. We filmed our last series in lockdown, which meant we didn’t get to do anything other than work, so we’re really keen to get together for one last hurrah.”
Aware of the show’s popularity, he added: “I imagine the day someone says, 'Line Of Duty is back,‘it’ll burn the internet down!’
Adrian, Vicky and Martin’s strong friendship hasn’t waned one bit since their last episode together three years ago. “We talk to each other most weeks. We’re all pretty busy people, so we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like to, but now and again, we go out with Jed for a curry and that’s good fun.”
We can’t wait to see what happens next...
