Line of Duty series 7 talks are underway! World Production - BBC

Ever since that explosive finale episode of Line of Duty aired on BBC One in May 2021 (to 12.8m people, no less), the question on everyone's lips has been whether there will be another series. And, much to our excitement, one of its much-loved cast members has confirmed that talks are officially underway.

The police drama, which, to this day, is the most watched British drama of the 21st century, kept us on the edge of our seats for six seasons as superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DC Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and DS Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) tried to uncover the mole in the police force known only as "H".

Now, Christina Chong, who plays DI Nicola Rogerson, has seemingly let slip that the cast are being asked for availability, with the potential aim of filming the series later this year. She told MailOnline: “So I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season 7.”

This isn’t the first time any of the Line of Duty gang have discussed their hopes to bring a seventh series to screen. In August last year, Adrian Dunbar told Good Housekeeping: “We all want another series. We filmed our last series in lockdown, which meant we didn’t get to do anything other than work, so we’re really keen to get together for one last hurrah."

While we await official confirmation from the BBC, here's everything else we know about the new series...

Will there definitely be a Line of Duty series 7?

From the sounds of it, yes. As well as Christina Chong's latest revelation, in November last year, a source told The Sun that the Line of Duty cast had met up to discuss bringing the show back.

"Jed is close to Vicky, Martin and Adrian and they often meet for dinner – this time it was different. A topic of conversation was how they could align their schedules in 2025 to ensure Line Of Duty 7 happens. The ambition is filming could start next year and on screens by early 2026," they said.

Adrian Dunbar also hinted at the show's return around the same time. Explaining that he’d been trying to sneak some classic Irish phrases into the show since it started in 2012, he was seemingly optimistic that he’d get another chance to do so.

"The one I didn't get in, which is kind of a really good Irish one about not stopping things happening is, ‘Don't stall the digger”’, he said in an interview with Virgin Radio. “That's a good one, isn't it? Like, you know, ‘You've got to keep going.’ That's going in the next season.”

We can’t wait to see what happens next...

What will happen in Line of Duty series 7?

Plot details are sadly being kept firmly under wraps. However, while the series 6 finale answered a lot of questions (most importantly, who “H” was), there’s one thing that’s been on our minds ever since. Is the end coming for AC-12?

We hope not, but the merger of AC-12 with other corruption units wasn't exactly a great sign. And we have to wonder, who will find bent coppers now? Thankfully, Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) did get reinstated following his forced retirement at the end of the last series - so perhaps we’re just being overdramatic.

Who will star in Line of Duty series 7?

We're still awaiting confirmation from the BBC on which cast members will return, but something tells us Christina Chong will be making an appearance. And could the show really go without our favourite crime-solving trio, Vicky McClure (DC Kate Fleming), Martin Compston (DS Steve Arnott) and Adrian Dunbar (DS Ted Hastings)? We think not.

Fortunately, it seems Adrian, Vicky and Martin's strong friendship hasn’t waned since their last episode together three years ago. "We talk to each other most weeks. We’re all pretty busy people, so we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like to, but now and again, we go out with Jed for a curry and that’s good fun," Adrian told Good Housekeeping.

When will I be able to watch Line of Duty series 7?

While we don't have a release date just yet, rumour has it that the cast are being lined up to film the new series towards the end of this year, which means it could arrive on our screens as soon as early 2026. As soon as we have more news, you'll be the first to know.
