My snacking habits have changed drastically with age. Most notably, over the last few years, I no longer crave many of the same sweets I did while growing up. As for the sweets I do still crave, I can only stomach a much smaller serving than in years past.

Recently, I’ve been wandering further down the path of dried fruits and nuts as a sweet snack alternative. I’ve always been a huge fan of trail mix, as it scratches my midday chocolate craving itch while mixing in a balanced combination of healthier ingredients. What I love even more is incorporating dried fruits into my trail mix for even more variety.

Why I Love Trader Joe's Simply Amazing Soft Dried Apricots

This week, I came across the juiciest bag of soft dried apricots at my local Trader Joe’s, and I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts on this super flavorful dried fruit offering. Trader Joe’s Simply Amazing Soft Dried Apricots come in a 16-ounce bag for only $4.79 and are the perfect option for a midday snack. Upon my first bite, I knew I would have a problem because I immediately began fighting the urge to keep on snacking.

What I love most about soft dried apricots is their blush-orange hue, which pairs wonderfully with their rich, honey-like sweetness. These large, dried apricots are of the Suphany variety. Once harvested, they are carefully dried in the summer sun by Trader Joe’s own trusted Turkish supplier. They are then steamed gently as a final step to achieve a texture that is simultaneously soft and chewy.

These apricots are made for more than just snacking. You can add them to cooked grains along with toasted nuts for a flavorful pilaf. Better yet, impress the entire family with hearty slow cooker braised chicken or use them to make a filling for cookies. Or chop them up and stir them into muffin or quick bread batter for a tangy fruit boost.

If you love dried apricots like I do, don't pass up this limited-time snack. Each bite has a wonderful candy-like flavor with floral notes and a welcome tanginess. This variety is very much harvest-dependent, so it will only be available while the apricots are in season. There’s no time to waste.
