Lily James proves that investing in classic separates is the smartest way to approach style
Lily James is having a very stylish week and giving us plenty of winter dressing inspiration in the process, thanks to her wardrobe full of smart, interchangeable separates.
The actress has been out in New York promoting her new film The Iron Claw, and wore not one, but four chic ensembles in the space of 24 hours, all expertly curated by her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray.
Her first look consisted of the perfect outfit for miserable, rainy days, in the form of a cream knitted dress, brown Paris Texas boots, black cat-eye sunglasses, a beige clutch and a classic trench coat by Lafayette 148 (we all know the enduring power of the trench – versatile, practical, classic, lightweight – making it the ultimate savvy investment buy).
Next up, the actress made a swift change into a head-to-toe Prada look. For this, James relied on more wardrobe heroes; a white tank top, a black pencil skirt, a coordinating cropped jacket and pointed matching Jimmy Choo pumps. Her outfit is the epitome of smart casual, with each piece easy to mix and match.
Her third look swapped out her pencil skirt in favour of goes-with-everything leather trousers, her tank for a staple black jumper and her cropped jacket for a warm winter coat with leather panelling. Just like the rest of her timeless wardrobe separates (the trench, the white tank, the black pencil skirt, the list goes on) James' leather trousers are another item at the top of our investment list; the style never dates and can be worn forever, for just about any occasion. We love styling ours up with a pair of strappy heels and a statement top for party season, then trainers and cosy knits for the rest of the winter.
Saving the best for last, James demonstrated her chic take on party dressing, with a grey strapless Emilia Wickstead dress, black Jimmy Choo pumps, shimmering Cicada earrings and a fur coat for an extra dose of glamour. She finished her look with a bold red lip and voluminous curls. Who doesn't want to dress like James this festive season?
