Daisy Fuentes explains why she looks different in new TikTok video: 'I'm in my 50s now'
Daisy Fuentes is having a resurgence on social media after posting a video on TikTok where people commented that the former MTV host was unrecognizable.
The Cuban-American actress, model and television personality, now 55, was a pop culture staple after she became the first Latina VJ for music network and went on to break more barriers as the first Latina global spokesperson for Revlon. But after being out of the limelight for some years, fans were surprised to see her on TikTok and had difficulty recognizing who she was.
On Thursday, she responded to that reaction.
"Hi, guys. Yeah, it's me. I posted a video a couple of days ago and many of you were so surprised to see me here and you were wondering if it really was me and it is, it's me," Fuentes said. "I don't know when the last time was that you saw me but yeah, I look different. I do look different, you know, I don't know if you saw me 15 years ago, 20 years ago, but hey, I'm in my fifties now and yes, I look different. Maybe you look different from the last time that you saw me too."
Fuentes was at the peak of her fame from the early 1990s to the early 2000s before starting a clothing line under her name and exploring other business ventures through fashion and licensing. And while she still makes appearances on television, most recently on E! News's Daily Pop, people seemed to have missed a lot about her, including her marriage in 2015 to singer-songwriter Richard Marx and just how she's aged.
The TikTok video that Fuentes had posted days prior, which got over 172,000 views, was met with a lot of shocked viewers in the comments section.
"I saw the name, but it doesn't match the face I remember," one person wrote, while another commented, "Omg! This is NOT Daisy!!!"
Others didn't share that reaction, writing, "Why does everyone say she doesn't look the same? I totally see daisy just short hair and blonde."
Fuentes herself cleared up the confusion in her Thursday post.
"No, I haven't gotten surgery, yet. I may, I don’t know. But I'll tell you what I do is I use filters because why not? I want to look good and this gives me the option to. So yes, I use filters," she continued in her video. "Hey, if you want to see me ugly, come to my house. And bring pizza."
While TikTok users are still divided over her looks, sharing that it might be the blonde hair throwing them off, one thing that everybody seems to agree with is the familiarity of Fuentes's voice.
"Knew who you were by your voice before seeing your name," one person commented.
Another said, "So beautiful! And an unforgettable voice!"
