The Argentine prosecutor's office has announced that three people have been charged in connection with Liam Payne's death after the One Direction star died last month. Liam, 31, died after falling from his third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina.

The prosecutor's office has said in a statement that three people were arrested and charged with "abandonment of a person followed by death, supply and facilitation of narcotics", according to Sky News. The statement, issued by prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea, said: "Liam Payne was not fully conscious or was experiencing a state of noticeable decrease or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall."

The statement went onto say that one of the accused "accompanied the artist on a daily basis" during his stay in the Argentinian capital, while another of those charged was a hotel employee. The prosecutor's office said that it had analysed 800 hours of video from security cameras and public roads, conducted a "forensic extraction" of Liam's phone and received several dozen testimonies.

Meanwhile, their investigation revealed "at least four supplies of narcotics" and the results of the singer's toxicology tests revealed that he had alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system before his death. The statement added that Liam "did not adopt a reflex posture to protect himself from the fall" so it can be inferred that he may have fallen "in a state of semi or total unconsciousness".

The prosecutor's office also said that it would "rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act" as "in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing nor could he understand it". They added that what appeared to be narcotics and alcohol were strewn around broken objects and furniture in Liam's hotel room, leading the public prosecution to suspect that the singer had suffered a substance abuse-induced breakdown at the time of his fall.

Last month, Liam Payne's death was explored in a new TV documentary from streaming service Hulu titled One Direction: Liam Payne's Final Days. Fans of the singer slammed the show as 'disgusting' after it delved into the days before his death. Fans took to X to show their rage in the documentary. One said: “All this!! It’s disrespectful to Liam, his family & friends. So if you’re a fan or a decent person, dont watch. AND I’d be willing to bet a lot of information is incorrect, too. There’s been a lot of misinformation in press & investigation isn’t even complete #JusticeForLiam”.
