Lexie Adzija Shares a Game-Changing Pep Talk About Managing Comparison: 'Turn the Positives Back to Yourself'
The professional Canadian hockey player also shares the pre-game process that helps her hit the ice with confidence
Lexie Adzija wants you to play to your strengths.
The pro hockey player with the Professional Women's Hockey League in Boston, 23, joined forces with e.l.f. Cosmetics and PEOPLE to give a pep talk about how recognizes the positive qualities in others without losing sight of her winning attributes, too.
As the St. Thomas, ON, native got ready for game day, she said: "I think the best part about this new league [PWHL debuted in Jan. 2024] is that we get to be an inspiration and role model for young girls. But one of the hardest things we go through as female athletes is comparison."

Adzija then shared her advice for those sometimes challenging moments.
"It's okay to acknowledge other people's strengths, but then turn the positives back to yourself."
The forward adds that "at the end of the day: there's only one you. And, there's probably a thousand people that wish that they had your strengths."
Before she glides onto the ice, the impressive athlete has a confidence-boosting routine, which includes applying a few of her favorite e.l.f Cosmetics beauty products, and saying a few feel-good mantras to get her blood pumping.
"As I'm getting ready for games, some things I say are: I am confident. I am prepared. I win my battles. I am fast and explosive. I am strong. I look good. I am glowing."
The process sets her up for success.
"So, now I am feeling good going into my game, which means I'm going to play good."
