Les Dennis shuts down Strictly Come Dancing exit theory

Les Dennis has shut down a social media theory following his exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Family Fortunes host was the first celebrity to be eliminated from this year's Strictly on Sunday. The judges voted unanimously to save radio presenter Nikita Kanda and her dancing partner Gorka Márquez instead of him and Nancy Xu.

After the results show, one Strictly fan speculated on X/Twitter that the 69-year-old had always intended to leave the competition on Sunday because his touring production of 42nd Street begins in Southampton on Tuesday.

The comedian swiftly shut down the theory by insisting that he was planning to fit his rehearsals for Strictly around his performances in the stage musical.

"I was going to be training in the day and not appearing in the show on Friday and Saturday. Please check your facts before you write," he replied.

The original post has since been deleted.

Following his elimination, Les told Tess Daly on the show, "I've had the best time, this lady (Nancy) has been amazing, a great teacher, she's really put me through my paces... I hope I've entertained, that's what I came here for. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you're just all amazing!"

Turning to Nancy, he added, "I did as well as I could for you, I hope! That lot up there, I'm going to miss you so much."
