From historic moments including Shōgun's 18 wins as a non-English-language series and Baby Reindeer's success as a limited series, to sweet moments shared between actors (see Ayo Edebiri fangirling over Reba McEntire and Nicola Coughlan over Jennifer Aniston), the 2024 Emmy Awards was not one to miss.

Away from the onstage celebrations and the glitz of the red carpet came on of the more heartfelt moments of the evening. While hosting Live from E! Laverne Cox shared a sweet and emotional exchange with Baby Reindeer's Nava Mau on the importance of transgender representation onscreen.

The pair embraced one another in warm hug before Cox was reduced to tears as she stated, 'I'm the host, I'm supposed to keep it together.'

The Orange Is The New Black and Uglies actor and activistcongratulated Mau for her success on the hit Netflix series, Baby Reindeer. 'I'm so proud of you, this show is incredible and the work that you do is so amazing', said Cox.

'Ten years ago I became the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an acting Emmy and ten years later, I'm not the last, you're the fourth and you're the first in this category [supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie].'

Cox then Mau how the history-making nomination made her feel.

'What we've been fighting for as a community is to be able to tell stories that come from the heart, that are based on a human foundation and because that's who we are as trans people, first and foremost.'

'And that's the best thing I think, to celebrate about Baby Reindeer, that yes there are trans people, it's an LGBT show and has a trans character on it, and it's also a really good show. It's something I'm very proud of, and ultimately, I hope that we continue to get to be all that we are as trans people on screen,' said Mau.

Amid transphobic scapegoating and remarks commonly made by politicians both in the UK and the US (Donald Trump's baseless comments on transgender individuals and the Conservative Party), the importance of the pair's reminder of transgender acceptance and visibility served as an urgently needed message for championing their inclusion in society and the media.
