75-year-old model trips over at Paris Fashion Week – but recovers gracefully

Lauren Hutton, 75, took things in her stride after suffering a trip on the Valentino catwalk at Paris Fashion Week yesterday.

The model and actor walked the Valentino Autumn/Winter 2019 haute couture show which took place at Place Vendôme, Paris, France.

Hutton, who rose to fame in 1973 after signing a landmark contract with Revlon – becoming the highest paid model of her time at $1 million a year – prompted applause from the front row when she emerged on the catwalk.

The likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Celine Dion and Naomi Campbell cheered on the model.

However, as she made her way down the catwalk, the ‘American Gigolo’ star took a tumble in front of photographers, reports the Daily Mail.

While the reason for the fall is unclear, Hutton was wearing a pair of four-inch heels which may have proved hard to walk in. In later pictures of her after the show, Hutton appears to have removed the shoes.

But the model was not deterred.

In a video from Anna Dello Russo taken directly after the fall, Hutton gamely continues down the catwalk with the help of a fellow model walking in the show.

Hutton was joined on the catwalk by the likes of Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber.

In a bid to host a more diverse line-up of older models on his catwalk, Valentino’s couture designer Pierpaolo Piccioli also included models Cecilia Chancellor, 52, Georgina Grenville, 43, and Hannelore Knuts, 41, in its lineup.

This isn’t the first time the iconic model has struggled in heels.

Back in 2017, when Hutton walked the Bottega Veneta show, she enlisted the help of Hadid to walk with her for the finale – upon the advice of British stylist, Katie Grand.

In a now-iconic catwalk moment, Hutton took the younger supermodel’s arm after struggling to walk alone in her narrow platform heels for the finale.

“When I got back[stage], they said, ‘Get in the line, we’re about to go again.’ And I said, ‘I can’t, I can’t,’” she told The Cut.

“But a very smart stylist, Katie Grand from England, said, ‘You can follow Gigi.’ She had been in the middle of the line. I said, ‘I can’t. I’ll have to hold onto Gigi,’ and that’s how it worked.”
