Calvin Klein's autumn/winter 2018 show at New York Fashion Week boasted a slew of A-list attendees, including the most famous household names in fashion, music, TV and film. Of those in the very front row (along with Millie Bobby Brown and A$AP Rocky) was Big Little Lies star Laura Dern, accompanied by her 16-year-old son, Ellery Harper - who snagged his own personal invite.

Harper, the son of Dern and former husband, musician Ben Harper, isn't planning to follow in the footsteps of either of his famous parents. Though he won't take to the stage or the big screen, he's still itching with the artistic bug - Harper plans on making a name for himself in the fashion world, as an aspiring designer.

According to WWD Dern's NYFW schedule revolved around her fashion-forward son, who's a huge fan-turned-friend of Calvin Klein creative director Raf Simons.

Dern told the publication:“Really, I’m attending with Ellery who has a great love of Raf and is an invited guest of Raf - they have a beautiful connection.”

In fact, Harper told WWD that Simons had actually asked him to walk the runway as a model for the show, but his dad wasn't keen.

“He originally asked me to walk - but my dad had different opinions” Harper explained.“He wanted him to wait a little bit more,” Dern clarified.

Despite not stepping onto the catwalk this season, Harper was more than enthused to attend the iconic Calvin Klein presentation as a spectator, alongside his mother.

“As someone who loves urban wear and streetwear, [Raf Simons] is his favourite artist,” Dern told WWD, motioning to her teenage son.

The 51-year-old actress, flanked by her Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman and her Twin Peaks co-star Kyle MacLachlan, looked stunning in the popcorn-covered front row, wearing a red Valentine's Day-inspired ensemble - an off-the-shoulder crimson sweater tucked into a full-length red-dotted ivory skirt.

Seated on the opposite side of MacLachlan, Harper oozed sophistication in a checked shirt and matching pants under a long navy suit coat.

We can't wait to see him take the runways by storm.
