Laura Anderson opens up on 'hard' reality of being a single mum

Love Island star Laura Anderson has opened up on the challenges of being a solo parent, saying she's determined to make it work.

In an exclusive chat with Mirror, Laura confessed that although single motherhood wasn't something she ever imagined for herself, it's a role she's ready to ace as mum to her darling daughter, Bonnie.

Laura first met soap star Gary Lucy in July 2022 while they were both filming Celebs Go Dating, and before long, the pair seemed inseparable. They soon confirmed their relationship during a lavish getaway in Dubai in November 2022.

A month later, fans speculated Laura was expecting, thanks to a Christmas snap featuring her apparent baby bump being tenderly held by Gary.

However, just weeks prior, Laura shockingly revealed in an interview that there had been no intimate encounters between them, claiming that their relationship was strictly platonic. In December of that year, murmurs about a possible split surfaced as Laura hinted at going through "a very difficult time".

Despite publicly announcing her pregnancy in February and putting up a united front, insider buzz suggested the pair called it quits that same month. Rumours surfaced that they were back together after Bonnie was born, but it seems this wasn't the case.

On parenting her daughter alone, Laura bravely shared: "I think it was hard to get my head around initially, it wasn't what I expected. But that's the cards I was dealt in the end. Of course, I'm going to make it work for my child, even more so. I feel like I'm a really good mum, to be honest."

The former air hostess couldn't help but quip that her little one was her "brainpower". She shared: "She's great, your social life does a take a little bit of a backseat but most people, your good friends understand that."

When talking about juggling her busy career with motherhood, she swears by being organised.

"Prioritise what you need to do, it's just me," she remarked, further stating: "I have to make it work. I am tired but of course, I'm going to be tired. I'm bringing up a human soul, that's what I signed up for". Despite the exhaustion, she's not hitting the brakes on her career and even spilled the beans on her plans to pen a self-help book soon, saying she wanted to help struggling mums.
