Ladybird Books For Grown-Ups: Gloriously Funny, Depressingly Accurate

They say the best comedy comes from a place of pain.

Children’s publisher Ladybird have released a series of spoof books for adults as part of their centenary celebrations.

The searing wit of comedy writers Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris is expertly paired with vintage Ladybird artwork in this tongue-in-cheek collection. The duo, who have written for TV comedies That Mitchell and Webb Look and Miranda, told the Independent they wanted to write the books as if they were “time travellers from the 1960s looking at stuff such as dating and night clubs”.

Penguin says the books have been planned to “enable grown-ups to think they have taught themselves to cope.”

Those of you who remember the traditional Ladybird books will feel a pang of nostalgia at the familiar illustrations…and then a sharp stab of bittersweet regret for your lost youth.
