Lady Gaga is the first to wear Hedi Slimane's debut collection for Céline. The star - who was also a supporter of the designer's work at Saint Laurent - was seen in Paris carrying a black leather bag with gold hardware featuring the brand's logo.

Gaga's stylist, Tom Erebout, confirmed that the design was by Slimane for Céline. She teamed the bag at first with a vintage Alaia trench on 29 August, then today with an orange bodycon midi dress and black court shoes. Her platinum hair was piled high on her head, giving an air of old school Hollywood glamour.

"He gifted her the bag and it's the first one from his new collection," Eerebout told Business of Fashion. "Lady Gaga always supported Hedi at Saint Laurent. They're really close friends and they have been since he photographed her for The Fame Monster album cover."

Indeed, Gaga was the first to wear Slimane's debut Saint Laurent collection in 2012, and the first to wear his final couture offering in 2016. Her patronage is a canny move from Slimane. She shared two pictures of the bag, including a close-up, on Instagram to her 29.1 million followers.

She made sure that the paparazzi were given a good look at the item, holding it in front of her as she left her Paris hotel, even - somewhat unnaturally - holding it up as she stepped inside her car.

Until now Slimane's highly-anticipated debut collection for Céline has been kept a secret. The divisive designer was named Phoebe Philo's successor at the brand in January this year, following her exit in December.

Slimane has already announced that he will introduce menswear and couture as part of his vision for the luxury label. His first full ready-to-wear collection will be unveiled during Paris Fashion week on 28 September.
