SPF is the bookend of any good skincare routine and its benefits go way beyond preventing sunburn. It can also reduce the risk of skin cancer from UV damage, reducing hyperpigmentation and improve you overall skin health.

As a beauty journalist I'm constantly trying out new products and speaking to experts, and every dermatologist I've met with always recommends wearing daily SPF - not just during the summer - is the best investment you can make in your skin.

However finding one that works for your skin type is no easy feat when there's hundreds to choose from. There are many different skincare brands to shop from, offering lightweight, fast-absorbing textures across matte and dewy finishes.

Over the past decade, I've been using the La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVmune 400 Invisible Fluid Spf50+ Sun Cream, and it's the best I've found for my oily, acne-prone skin.

💸 Reasons to buy

Firstly, the compact packaging deserves a special mention. It's slim, easy to fit in a liquids bag in my carry-on luggage, and takes up minimal space in my toiletry bag.

However it's the formula that has won me over. It's very fluid and almost like a serum in texture, it couldn't be easier to massage all over my face. It doesn't take ages to absorb, nor leave behind a greasy glow or sticky sensation.

I love how lightweight the texture of this, it doesn't leave behind a white cast or make my skin feel sticky. (Yahoo Life UK)

Instead it has a mattifying finish, and helps control oil production throughout the day, a godsend if your forehead, nose and chin are constantly shiny like mine.

It never pills nor disrupts my make-up, even if I opt for a dewier complexion product, plus it's fragrance-free which minimises any irritation and doesn't cause a flood of whiteheads to appear when I'm re-applying it every few hours on holiday.

Reasons to avoid

In all honesty, it's hard to find a reason to dissuade anyone with oily skin from buying this, it's that good.

However if you prefer a more radiant finish to your SPF, I'd recommend opting for the La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Aquagel SPF30, which is a clear gel formula that's great for combination or dry skin types.

While almost £20 for a face suncream isn't cheap, it lasts me well over six months, and is worth every penny.
