L’Officiel Adds Hong Kong Edition

LONDON — L’Officiel has launched a Hong Kong edition, beginning with a digital platform that debuted Thursday. A print version is set to follow in early 2024.

Ken Lo, chief executive officer at AMTD World Media and Entertainment Group and global chief of staff and Asia CEO of L’Officiel, said the launch of the Hong Kong edition is “an important illustration to underpin our global direct ownership model, which is a unique proposition in the media industry. We are keen to support and amplify Hong Kong local voices, talents and culture via our international media platform.”

AMTD acquired L’Officiel from the Jalou family for an undisclosed sum in 2022.

Following its acquisition, the media company transitioned to a direct ownership model for its businesses in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. In July 2023, L’Officiel introduced its luxury watch review, La Revue Des Montres, in Asia.

Calvin Choi, global chairman of AMTD Group, believed that “fashion has the power to break the constraints of geography and language, connecting people through art and creativity.”

“The launch of L’Officiel Hong Kong echoes the city’s willingness to become an international cultural hub. We have full confidence that L’Officiel Hong Kong will inherit the brand’s fashion legacy and bring new vitality into Hong Kong’s cultural industry development,” added Choi.

Under the new ownership, the magazine has also settled disputes with freelancers. Earlier in the summer, the American version of the title, for example, came to an agreement with the city of New York to pay more than $275,000 to 41 freelancers.
