She's best known for playing Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy, and Alison Scott in the hit 2007 movie Knocked Up, but US actress Katherine Heigl is making her TV comeback, and boy does she look different...

In her previous roles she was (mostly) platinum blonde - a hair colour that boomed last year as celebrities got experimental with the bleach. Kate Middleton gave honey-blonde highlights a go, Kaia Gerber bleached her hair at home (not advised), and Kylie Jenner made the slow transition from jet-black to Barbie blonde.

We know actors and actresses have to change their appearance a lot in order to take on different roles, but it's always a bonus when they actually suit their new look (case in point: Lily James' buttery-blonde bob in Rebecca - stunning).

Katherine's latest role is Tully Heart in the new Netflix series Firefly Lane, a character described as a "confident spitfire brunette" in the book it's based on. Although it looks like wigs played a part in Katherine's various transformations throughout the film (it's set over a 30-year period), we still can't get over how different she looks with dark, shoulder-length hair.

Did she fall in love with the colour and decide to go brunette IRL? No, in a word - her Instagram grid suggests she decided to stick with the blonde, but at least she knows the colour suits her if she ever feels adventurous enough to join the dark side.
