Knitted bonnets are the must-wear accessory this winter – so why not have a go at knitting your own?

Crafters across the world have been taking to social media to share their knitted bonnet creations – and we're seriously inspired to get stitching.

Knitted bonnets are similar to bobble hats, but are usually tied under the chin with either a ribbon or a length of yarn. They look lovely paired with a matching knitted scarf when you're out for a January blues-busting walk!

This knitting project is a great way to use up leftover yarn from other knitted and crochet pieces. Give the bonnets to friends and family as gifts or keep for yourself as beautiful additions to your handmade wardrobe.

We've rounded up our favourite knitted bonnets from crafters across the world to inspire your next project.

Pretty in purple

We're always looking for new yarn colour ideas – and this pretty purple marl yarn looks perfect in a knitted bonnet, as shared by @sofiesknitbit on Instagram. The project is the perfect size to use up yarn leftover from other makes, too.

Perfectly pink

A knitted bonnet is a great project to inject a bit of your personality into – as shown by @foxybabyknits on Instagram. The little ears on the top of the bonnet are the perfect finishing touch!

Beautiful bobble stitch

Why not experiment with new techniques in your knitted bonnet, like the bobble stitch used in these bonnets shared by @thelittlestylist on Instagram.

The textured bobble stitch is a lovely way to add something new to your knitted bonnet project.

Stylish stripes

We love working a stripe into our knitting projects – and this striped bonnet from @milenapauliina on Instagram is super chic.

The beige and green yarns offset each other perfectly, making this a stylish addition to a winter wardrobe.

Bold block colour

It can pay off to be bold in your yarn colour choices, like in this bright red bonnet from @rhiannaellington on Instagram.

It's such a striking accessory, and the big bow to keep it in place is the perfect finishing touch.

Keep it neutral

Knitted bonnets can look equally stylish made up in neutral yarn colours, as demonstrated by @wishwishwish on Instagram. This bonnet would make such a chic addition to any winter outfit.

Spring has sprung

Are you sick of winter and ready for spring? Knitted bonnets are a great transitional piece, too, as shown by @meganfaithmakes on Instagram.

We love the pastel shades of yarn used – and the scallop edging adds a soft finish to the project.

Marvellous mohair

Knitting with mohair creates beautifully soft and textured pieces, with a signature fluffy look. Knitted bonnets made with mohair are adorable, like @thecreativecas4 showed on Instagram.

The soft blue and purple yarns perfectly complement the texture of the mohair yarn.

Happy stitching!
