A post office in Clarksburg, Ohio, received an extra special surprise when a kitten was found in a mailbox.

The Fayette Regional Humane Society confirmed in a Facebook post that on the evening of Saturday, June 15, an agent was sent to the post office after a 10-month-old orange-and-white kitten was allegedly "shoved through a mailbox slot.”

The kitten was “scared but unharmed” and was rescued from the mailbox and named Special Delivery in light of his unusual rescue.

“I’ve seen kittens stuck in many places, but this was new for me!” said Chief Humane Agent Brad Adams. “I’m sure it was a bit of a shock to hear meowing coming from the mailbox.”

The post also confirmed that Special Delivery is currently recovering at the Fayette Regional Humane Society’s Animal Care and Adoption Center and had already “stolen the hearts of the staff.”

“Special Delivery has a bright future ahead,” Adams confirmed. “He already meows for attention and wants to be picked up and cuddled by everyone who passes by.”

Dr. Lee Schrader, executive director at the Fayette Regional Humane Society, also said in the post, “We are so fortunate that Special Delivery was found in time.”

Dr. Schrader called the sweet kitten ”our most precious special delivery” and reminded people that “if you find a kitten, please call your nearest shelter for advice — kittens can’t be mailed!”

The Fayette Regional Humane Society confirmed that Special Delivery will be available for adoption within the next few weeks.
