The King and Queen arrived at Chelsea Flower Show on Monday (20 May), following the announcement of The King as the new patron of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)

The King followed in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was previously RHS patron.

His Majesty arrived at Chelsea with The Queen for a tour of this year’s gardens and were pictured enjoying the sights and smells of the blooms at the event.

They were shown visiting some of the gardens which are up for the prestigious awards this year, and met with some of the designers, gardeners and wider team members behind the impressive displays.

For the occasion, The Queen wore a royal blue and navy shirt dress featuring a vibrant peacock print, which she accessorised with understated gold jewellery. The King co-ordinated with his wife's attire, choosing a dark blue suit and tie in a Greek flag pattern which he has worn on previous occasions.

Last year, The King and Queen also attended the event and presented a special new award while visiting the showcase, which honoured the memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

"The King and Queen presented the first ever ‘Elizabeth Medal of Honour’ to Baroness Fookes, Piet Oudolf and Judy Ling Wong," announced the Royal Family's official social media account. "This new award will be given to those who have made a significant impact to the advancement of the science, art or practice of horticulture."

For this occasion in 2022, The Queen opted for a floral midi dress and was the picture of spring. Her long sleeve dress featured a gently flaring A-line skirt and what appeared to be a snowdrop pattern on a navy background.

The Queen paired her dress with camel wedged pumps, which were a sophisticated take on the practical shoes required for covering the breath of the Chelsea Flower Show grounds.

King Charles co-ordinated with his wife in a smart navy suit, adding a polka dot tie and matching pocket square.

The King and Queen are keen gardeners and have visited Chelsea in the past, although 2023 is their first since becoming monarchs, and this year was The King's first as RHS patron.

Chelsea Flower Show began on Monday 20 May with a preview day, opening to the public from Tuesday 23 May. Everyone can watch Chelsea on TV with daily coverage on BBC One and BBC Two.
