King Charles' true feelings about return to public duties from 'ashen faced' expression to 'heartwarming' moment
The King made his much-anticipated return to the public stage on Tuesday, 30 April as he and Queen Camilla visited the Macmillan Cancer Centre at University College Hospital in London.
After a long period of recovery and recuperation, the King looked happy and relieved to be back to work and doing what he does best and meeting members of the public and learning about the work the researchers do.
"King Charles looks genuinely happy to be back in the public eye", body language expert Adrianne Carter tells OK! "We see from his wide gestures that he’s relaxed, enjoying himself and taking it all in."
Adrianne adds: "When we’re comfortable with situations and ourselves we’re more likely to show genuine smile and expansive gestures. Although he still looks quite ashen faced, his genuine ready smiles are heartwarming."
He was seen waving and smiling at royal fans who had waited patiently to catch a glimpse of the monarch as he returned to public duties. The visit marked the first of Charles' upcoming public-facing engagements. He and Camilla will host a state visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan in June.
On the progress the King has made, former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond told OK! “His healthy regime, diet and love of exercise must all have helped him with his recovery. In the past Charles has had a tendency to be a little morose when things go wrong, he can sometimes dwell on what he feels to be the injustices of the world and of his life.
"But now, and especially with Camilla at his side, he seems determined to brush aside adversity and concentrate on showing us all that he is robust and ready to get back to a full diary of work as soon as possible."
It was confirmed that King Charles would be making his highly anticipated return to public duties by Buckingham Palace in a statement. It was said that engagements will be "adapted where necessary" for the King, whose medical time are "very encouraged" by his progress.
A Buckingham Palace representative said: “His Majesty’s medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King’s continued recovery.
“Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimise any risks to His Majesty’s continued recovery. The pacing of the King’s programme will be carefully calibrated as his recovery continues, in close consultation with his medical team.”
