How King Charles Reacted to Son Prince Harry Visiting Him in London
Prince Harry took a straight flight from Los Angeles to London upon learning that his dad, King Charles III, had been diagnosed with cancer. And, despite the complicated relationship between father and son throughout the past few years, a source close to the family told Bazaar the king very much appreciated Harry’s gesture.
Harry flew out of LAX Monday, the same day Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch had been diagnosed with a form of cancer, identified during a surgical procedure to treat his benign enlarged prostate in late January.
The Duke of Sussex landed at London’s Heathrow Airport on Tuesday and headed straight to Clarence House, one of the king’s royal residences in London, where Charles was staying with wife Queen Camilla.
Harry spent about an hour with his dad, Bazaar learned, and stayed alone overnight in a hotel nearby.
On Tuesday afternoon, the king and Camilla were seen leaving Clarence House to return to Buckingham Palace. The couple had been at the king’s Sandringham country estate, but returned to London on Monday so he could begin his outpatient cancer treatment.
A royal family source told Bazaar there were no plans for Harry to meet with his estranged brother, Prince William, while in London. And today, as Harry flew back home, William was busy hosting an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle in place of his father, who is taking a break from public engagements as he is treated for his cancer.
