King Charles leads tributes to Prince William on 42nd birthday with adorable throwback baby snap

King Charles has led birthday tributes to his son, the Prince of Wales, with an adorable throwback photo on social media.

Prince William, who turns 42 today (Friday, 21 June), is pictured as a baby with his father in a black and white snap, which was taken at Kensington Palace on 1 February 1983. The monarch can be seen smiling as he holds a young William on his lap.

Shared on the Royal Family's official social media channels, the caption read: "Wishing the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday!"

Elsewhere, Kate Middleton also publicly wished William a happy birthday as she posted a photograph of her husband with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, jumping high above some sand dunes.

In the caption, the Princess of Wales, 42, wrote: "Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx"

William's big day comes after he arrived in Germany to watch England take on Denmark in the Euros. The prince, who is president of the FA, was seen enjoying the match - despite the disappointing 1-1 score - alongside Denmark's King Frederick and his daughter Princess Josephine, 13.

William headed to to Germany alone, with wife Kate thought to be at home and remaining away from public duties as she continues treatment for cancer in the UK.

Last week, the royal also made a surprise visit to St George's Park - the England team's national football centre in Burton upon Trent - where he gave the team shirts before they made their way to Germany.

William revealed he'd been discussing the Euros with his children on the school run and shared the advice the youngsters came up with to try and secure England a win.

The dad of three told the team: "I was on the school run this morning with the children and I asked them what I should say to you today. The best bit of advice I got to ask you was to eat twice as much as you normally eat."

Revealing it was Louis who came up with the advice, William jokingly added: "I don't have visions of all of you running around with massive red tummies and getting stitches on the pitch. So I think maybe take my youngest's kind of advice with a pinch of salt."

England's captain Harry Kane quipped: "I don't think our nutritionist will be happy with that advice."
