King Charles has paid tribute to his younger sister Princess Anne on her 73rd birthday with some sweet photos of the pair, both old and new.

Buckingham Palace released two images of the siblings on The Royal Family official Instagram and Facebook accounts, with the caption, "Wishing Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal a very Happy Birthday today!"

The first image is a never-before-seen snap of Charles and Anne taken on the King's Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 6 May, featuring them smiling and looking lovingly at each other. Photographer Chris Jackson (known for snapping intimate moments of the royals) described the image on his own socials as "a behind the scenes moment".

The second shows young Charles at just two-years-old holding his baby sister's hand in a black and white shot from Clarence House in July 1951, part of the Royal Collection Trust. We can't get enough of Anne's adorable ruffled bonnet and their matching prams.

Many fans flooded the comments to wish the princess birthday wishes, with one acknowledging the "beautiful bond between the King and the Princess" and another writing "what super photos!".

With Anne known as a powerhouse for her commitment to royal duties, equestrian talents, and doing things her way, one simply commented, "Princess Anne is the boss."

Princess Anne was born on 15 August 1950 at Clarence House, the second child to the late Queen and late Duke of Edinburgh. Her special day this year closely follows her being appointed Deputy Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Regiment of Scotland (Charles became the regiment's Colonel-in-Chief after the death of his mother).

In September 2022, the princess accompanied her resting mother's body on her final journey back to England and Buckingham Palace. Charles and Anne are thought to be the only two senior members of the royal family who made it Balmoral before she died.
