Many shoppers love Trader Joe’s, so whenever it offers something new (or returns a fan favorite), everyone wants to know about it.

When the grocery store launched its new Pizza Party Potato Chips, fans were so excited they bought three bags at once. Then everyone flocked to their local stores when Trader Joe’s brought back its Lemon Flavored Mini Sheet Cake, which has a reputation for selling out quickly.

Now, Trader Joe’s has something else brand-new: a store near New York City's Union Square unlike any of its other stores.

Trader Joe's quietly opened its new Pronto store near New York City's Union Square (close to Strand Bookstore) in what was once the grocery chain's wine shop. That space shuttered abruptly back in 2022 without an explanation, but rumors were that it was to prevent the unionization of workers.

Like its name, which means to be prompt or quick, Pronto is a grab-and-go style store intended more for the busy lunch crowd looking to pick up something to eat quickly at the office (whatever that means these days). It has everything from prepackaged sandwiches to salads, beverages, fresh fruit, cheese, meats, chips, dips, and other snacks to enjoy on the go. We saw premade salads and soups for only $4.99 and salad kits for even less.

You can also head over there to pick up a few items needed to make dinner but know the selection is more limited than in the original grocery stores.

TikTok's evaknuds recently posted a video online showing off the new store and its offerings, saying there were "basically no lines." When the video showed the checkout area, only one person was paying at the register, while the rest of the store looked pretty empty. Since it's a quick grab-and-go concept, this could be what the company was after, and we (like any other Trader Joe's shopper) will gladly take less shopping congestion over TJ's usual long lines.

As of this writing, this is the only location of its kind in New York City, and there is no chatter about any other locations opening anytime soon.
