Kim Kardashian might have broken the internet with her famous 2014 Paper magazine shoot, but she’s trying it again with her new hairstyle.

Her latest photoshoot shows Kim dressed in all white, with long, beaded braids.

The variety of shots, uploaded to Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, features Kim showing off her new ‘Bo Derek’ braids, as she referred to them.

In a video posted to Snapchat, the model and businesswoman says: “So guys, I got Bo Derek braids, and I’m really into it.”

Although many were quick to compliment Kim on her latest shots, the “Bo Derek” claim of the braids faced backlash.

Twitter users said she was ‘trolling black women’ and that she ‘did not get [her] inspiration from white women’.

The hairstyle originates from Nigeria and is usually known as ‘Fulani’ braids. These are a type of cornrow, and have been worn by black men and women for hundreds of years.

Kim was referencing white actress Bo Derek, who wore the hairstyle in her 1979 movie, “10.”

This isn’t the first time she’s faced claims of cultural appropriation, either. In June last year, Kim uploaded a photo to Twitter of herself with what seemed like a much darker skin tone, to promote her new makeup line.

Twitter users were quick to question why Kim’s skin tone had darkened, telling her she didn’t ‘have to do black face’ for promotion.

In an interview with the New York Times, Kim apologised for the photo, saying: “I would obviously never want to offend anyone. Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did.

“But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it.”
