The key autumn colour trend to know
The seasons changing again can only mean one thing: it's time for a wardrobe update. While we're sad to be packing away our summer dresses and linen trousers for another year, the gorgeous new autumn/winter fashion trends are making the transition much easier.
The key colour to know has been bubbling up for some time, but it's now official: rich, juicy burgundy is the shade du jour, and it's set to become your new autumn favourite.
The first signs came at the SS24 fashion weeks, when we spotted burgundy peppering the runways of Gucci and Bottega Veneta (above). Then, the opulent colour starred in Prada, Gucci and Victoria Beckham's AW24 shows, too, and we were fully sold. The burgundy bag, in particular, led the charge – the perfect 'quiet luxury' update to your accessories rotation.
From deep oxblood to rich merlot, there are so many variations of this deep, reddish-brown shade. Plenty of high-street brands have been jumping on the burgundy bandwagon as autumn rolls in, and we don't see this trend slowing down anytime soon.
If your wardrobe is dominated by neutrals, the thought of adding a dark red into the mix may feel a little daunting. But, don't worry, there are lots of ways you can embrace this timeless colour and use it to add chic depth to your wardrobe, without doing a total 180 on your personal style.
Best of all, not only does burgundy feel like the epitome of elegance, but it also looks great paired with black, cream, camel, grey and denim, meaning you needn't stray too far from your comfort zone. Feeling braver? Burgundy's purple undertones mean it's also stunning with powder blue.
Thanks to influencers and celebrities alike, there's so much inspiration to be had even if burgundy dresses and blazers aren't quite your vibe. Instead, take notes from the fashion set and try accessorising with burgundy bags, belts or boots to instantly elevate your look.
