Kevin Hart says he's 'lucky to be alive' on 41st birthday

Kevin Hart has expressed the gratitude he feels about being alive for his 41st birthday, almost a year after he was seriously injured in a car accident.

On Monday, the comedian celebrated his birthday with an Instagram photo showing him smiling on a boat.

“So blessed & so thankful to see the age 41…I’m lucky to be alive,” he captioned the photo. “There will never be another day that just goes by in my life that’s not treated with the highest level of respect and appreciation... God is great!!!!

“Thank you… Happy B Day to me damn it!!!!! #livelaughlove.”

In September, Hart was left with “major back injuries” including a fractured spine, which required him to undergo surgery, after the car he was in veered off the road and rolled down an embankment in Los Angeles, California.

In addition to a 10-day hospitalisation stay, the actor also entered a live-in rehab facility for physical therapy following the crash.

This is not the first time the Night School actor has reflected on the new perspective the accident gave him. A month after the crash, Hart told his Instagram followers that he sees “life from a whole new perspective” and that he feels like “God basically told me to sit down”.

“My appreciation for life is through the roof. I’m thankful for my family, my friends. I’m thankful for the people that simply ride with me and have been with me. Because you stood by me, my fans. I’m thankful for all of your love and support,” Hart continued.

He concluded the video reminding his followers not to “take today for granted because tomorrow’s not promised.”

“I’m thankful for simply still being here, on the road to being a bigger and better version of me. I’m looking forward to an amazing 2020,” he said.

In a separate Instagram post, Hart’s wife Eniko Hart shared her birthday wishes for her husband, writing: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY babe! I took a trip down memory lane this morning and gathered just a few photos from over the years of us celebrating you! Woo!

“You’ve gotten better, older, & wiser over the years. I loved u then and love more of the man that you’ve become. We’ve shared so many memorable moments together...looking forward to celebrating another 10+ years/lifetime LIVING, LAUGHING, & LOVING with you on your birthday!”
