Kerry Washington, 46, Shares Her Go-To Pilates Moves For Toning Abs, Arm, And Legs
Kerry Washington is showing off her strength—and having fun while she's at it—in her latest Instagram video. The Scandal scar, 46, gave her followers a peek into her exact Pilates reformer workout with her trainer, Erika Bloom—and let's just say, no muscle was spared! While the Unprisoned actress was toning from head to toe, she got creative by pairing each move with a hip-hop song.
Kerry's Pilates workout consisted of many compound exercises, like weighted twisting lunges, cable pulls, sliding lunges with arm raises, all of which showed off her sculpted core, strong arms, and toned legs. Kerry moved slowly through each move, keeping her muscles under constant tension.
The Little Fires Everywhere star shared a bit about her history with the exercise modality in her Instagram caption. "Turning pilates moves into hip-hop grooves with @erikabloomwellness for over a decade! She is the BEST. And good news!! You can work with her too!!! Check out her digital membership options! 💪🏾🙌🏾," she wrote.
This isn't the first time Kerry has shared her Pilates workouts—and accompanying music choices—on social media. In October 2022, she shared an Instagram video doing mat Pilates paired with hip-hop jams.
And in April 2023, Kerry shared a Wes Anderson film-inspired Pilates workout with Bloom on her TikTok.
As for the American Son star's overall approach to fitness, Kerry told The Cut in 2022 that she likes to get her workouts in first thing in the morning. "It depends on what I’m working on at the moment, but generally I start my day between 5 and 6 a.m. with a workout. I do a combination of Pilates, weight training, and cardio," she said. "I also love to be outdoors, whether it is swimming or hiking."
Besides Pilates, Kerry is also a longtime fan of yoga. In an interview with Jay Shetty, the The Prom actress shared, "One of the first tools that helped to bring me back to myself was yoga. It was one of the first times that I remember being still in my body in Savasana at the end of that first yoga class I took in high school and weeping because I felt really present in my body."
In May 2020, Kerry shared with fans a video of her yoga practice with instructor Rebecca Benenati.
Health and wellness has also been a part of Kerry's self-love journey. “Learning how to love myself and my body is a lifelong process,” she told Essence in October 2020. “But I definitely don’t struggle the way I used to. Therapy helped me realize that maybe it’s okay for me to communicate my feelings. Instead of literally stuffing them down with food, maybe it’s okay for me to express myself.”
Keep doing you, Kerry!
