Kensington Palace to stop discussing Princess of Wales’s outfits in ‘substance over style’ focus
The Princess of Wales will focus on “substance” instead of style as Kensington Palace will keep details of her fashion choices under wraps.
The Princess, 43, is looking to place attention on her work rather than her wardrobe as she returns to public engagements after revealing she is in remission from cancer.
Kensington Palace would previously release information about the outfits she wears to public engagements.
A palace source told The Sunday Times: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the Princess is wearing. She wants the focus to be on the really important issues – the people and the causes she is spotlighting.
“There will always be an appreciation of what the Princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
Buckingham Palace would also provide details of the styles that the late Queen wore on public engagements.
It is believed that Kensington Palace could occasionally reveal more about significant outfits or jewellery worn by the Princess for the most important family and state events. However, it is unlikely to do so for other engagements.
The Princess has supported a number of British designers over the years such as Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham.
There was no information issued by Kensington Palace about the Princess’s outfit when she visited South Wales last week.
