KEMET Universal and Electa Chapter continue support for field day at J.L. Lomax Elementary

May 17—VALDOSTA — For the 32nd consecutive year, the KEMET Universal and Electa Chapter, under the leadership of Grandmaster Eddie Koonce, sponsored the Field Day event at J. L. Lomax Elementary School. The event took place on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Field Day at J. L. Lomax Elementary is a tradition that brings together students, parents, and faculty for a day of fun, games, and community bonding. This year's event was as exciting as ever, thanks to the generous support of KEMET Universal and Electa Chapter. Koonce and his organization provide an array of refreshments and food, including watermelons, sausages, pulled pork, and water, ensuring that everyone stays energized and hydrated throughout the festivities.

"What we're doing is giving from our hearts and trying to make them happy," said Koonce. "That's what it takes to live. You have to give to receive."

Field Day activities included a variety of team-building exercises and recreational games designed to promote physical fitness and teamwork among the students. The event provides a perfect opportunity for children to enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the end of the school year with their peers. The students' favorite activities were the waterslides and the competitive tug-a-war between classes. Counselor Regina Kimbrough supports the celebration as a culmination of a year of learning as a school family. "This event celebrates the whole year; they wait all year long to celebrate like this and have a little fun," she said. "This is kind of a culmination of our school year."

The event takes place after the end-of-year assessments, including the Georgia Department of Education required end-of-grade assessments in grades 3, 4, and 5.
