Keke Palmer wore Christina Aguilera's daring 2003 MTV gown to the Oscars' after-party
Keke Palmer took a page out of the red-carpet history books last night as she attended the Oscars' after-party in a stunning sheer vintage dress. The gown was not only an archival piece in its own right, but it was also worn over 20 years ago by singer Christina Aguilera.
The naked dress, consisting of a see-through Swarovski crystal mesh bodice and flowing floor-length wrap skirt, was pulled from Versace's spring 2004 collection by Palmer's stylist Molly Dickinson. But it was Christina Aguilera who first brought the dress to life at the 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards, when she arrived on the red carpet in the daring design.
Palmer's dress was sourced from couture collector OpulentAddict, who wrote about the background of the piece on Instagram, sharing; "This stunning dress is a Demi-Couture piece, and while it was featured on the spring 2004 runway, due to the hand sewing of the many Swarovski crystal embellishment and custom features (i.e the less revealing bra), it was a made to order piece which bares an Atelier Versace tag."
The vintage curator also noted the dress had another famous name on its list; the Versace gown was worn by none other than the head of the Italian fashion house, Donatella Versace, in a 2003 Harper's Bazaar shoot.
Dickinson has made a name for herself as one of the most sought-after celebrity stylists in the industry, and often pulls pieces from the archives which have previously been seen on A-listers. It was at the Oscars' after-party last year that Dickinson dressed Sydney Sweeney in a silky ivory dress by Marc Bouwer, the same gown that Angelina Jolie wore to the Academy Awards in 2004.
Despite its history, Palmer made the dress completely her own last night, styling it with a mirrored clutch bag, a pair of strappy crystal-embellished heels and opulent silver jewellery. The actress opted for a super sleek beauty look, with a side-parted slicked-back bun and soft luminous make-up.
