Keira Knightley recalls wardrobe malfunction: ‘Just full on naked body’
Watch: Keira Knightley recalls how dress once 'split' prior to red carpet event
Keira Knightley is not immune to the odd wardrobe malfunction after revealing a near disastrous style mishap she had before hitting the red carpet.
The Love Actually star recalled the time her dress once split in half before the British Independent Film Awards back in 2005, leading to what she describes as an “amazing” fashion faux-pas to forget.
“I was wearing a Hervé Léger dress, one of those bandage-y dresses,” she told People. “I went to step out of the door and it split from the bottom to the top — my entire body was out.”
“It was just full-on naked body,” the actor added. “So it was a real moment of going, ‘I think that dress was a bit too small.'”
Thankfully before she stepped in front of the cameras, Knightley ditched the broken dress for a different figure-skimming Hervé Léger design, which had also been delivered for the event.

“It was at a point where I was being followed around by many paparazzi,” Knightley recalls. “Luckily, I was in my flat, I was not out the front door, so nobody got a picture of the fact that this dress had split.”
“Thank God it [didn’t] happen on the red carpet because it could have happened at any point that evening and I was incredibly fortunate that it happened when it did,” she continued.
Instead of the split dress the actor attended the awards show wearing a high-neck white bandaged mini dress, sans split, when she accepted the Variety Award.

Knightley certainly isn't the only star to be on the wrong end of a sartorial slip-up.
Last month, singer Charli XCX suffered an awkward style spoiler which saw her accidentally expose her left breast on-air.
Sharing a clip of the unfortunate incident to Instagram the I'm So Fancy singer said the blooper, which occurred at the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Music Awards, had left her in hysterics.

In the video, the star is seen sporting a low cut black dress black dress as she opted to go braless.
She said: "And the ARIA goes to The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber for Stay. Well done, congratulations," before bursting into a fit of giggles.
The Grammy-nominated artist lifted her arm to give a wave, when one of the straps on her dress slipped off her shoulder and exposed her cleavage.
Thankfully the show's editing meant the wardrobe malfunction was not aired at the time of the ceremony.
Emma Watson isn't immune to the odd style blooper either.
Back in 2009 during the premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince the actor accidentally flashed her pants.
The Harry Potter star later laughed off the style slip up on The Late Show With David Letterman saying: “This was a small wardrobe malfunction that happens. At least I’m wearing underwear!”

It seems supermodels can't escape the clutches of calamities of the style variety either.
At the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, model Bella Hadid wore a satin pink frock with daringly hight slits, which didn't exactly work out for her as she accidentally exposed her underwear on the red carpet.
Sister, Gigi Hadid, knows a thing or two about wardrobe malfunctions too. During the Versace fashion show of Milan Fashion Week in 2016, the model's entire breast popped out as she hit the runway.
Thankfully, ever the professional, she appeared to be unbothered by the incident.
“Wardrobe malfunctions happen on the runway every day of [Fashion Week] and are … unfortunate LOL but let’s talk instead about the new VERSACE CHOKERS,” Gigi tweeted at the time, adding, “[And] the bags [and] the boots [and] the coats [and] everythinnngggg. Killin’ me, Donatella @Versace!!!!!!!”

Cameron Diaz wasn't about to let her own wardrobe malfunction stop her from attending the premiere of her movie Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle back in 2003.
Despite her shoes breaking moments before she was due to hit the red carpet, the actor decided to forgo shoes altogether and was pictured barefoot with co-stars Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.
Reality TV stars have also had their fair share of fashion mishaps, just ask Khloé Kardashian.
Earlier this year the KUWTK star was left "frantic" after a wardrobe faux-pas minutes before an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I was wearing a shirt and backstage, the holes on the back [of it] ripped open, and I was like, ‘I don’t have anything to wear and it’s live TV!’” Kardashian told People at the time.
Thankfully she was able to switch up her top for an oversized blazer. “I looked really menswear chic,” she recalled. “But the whole time, I’m kind of scrunched over because I don’t really have a top underneath. I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, what’s happening?’”
Also earlier this year, Katy Perry praised fiancé, Orlando Bloom, for rescuing her while suffering something of a wardrobe malfunction on stage.
The singer was appearing at Variety‘s Power of Women event in Los Angeles in September 2021, when she realised her dress was causing her breathing issues.
“Orlando, can you undo my corset? It’s a little tight. I can’t sing,” she asked Bloom, who rushed on the stage to help loosen her undergarment.
“Pull it all the way down … I have girdle in here. All the way down!”
