Keira Knightley lands next lead movie role
Keira Knightley has landed her next lead movie role in dystopian sci-fi thriller Conception.
The film, which is written and directed by Camille Griffin, is set in the near future of Britain, where the government has taken an authoritarian rule over parenting (via Deadline).
Knightley stars in the film as Rita, who is described as "a loyal civil servant and believer in the unforgiving system she upholds, until unexpected events endanger her own parental status, rendering her victim to the same laws she so readily inflicted on others"
Conception marks a reunion between Knightley and Griffin, who previously collaborated on the 2021 film Silent Night.
Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler, who produced Silent Night, are also producing Conception for Maven Screen Media.
"I’m lucky to have found Keira. She is as great an ally as she is a talent. I plan to make a unique and exciting film together," Griffin said in a statement.
Maven added: "We are in awe of Camille’s vivid imagination and creative talent. She has a unique ability to express big complex ideas in every day, relatable events. We are thrilled to reassemble the Silent Night team and work with Keira again."
Earlier this year, it was announced that Knightley will lead an upcoming thriller series titled Black Doves.
The Netflix show, which is written by The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself's Joe Barton, will see the actress play Helen, a politician's wife and a spy who is passing her husband's secrets along to the titular secret organisation.
Other cast members include Paddington's Ben Whishaw, Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire, It's a Sin's Omari Douglas, The Diplomat's Adam Silver and Andor's Kathryn Hunter.
There are currently no release dates for Conception or Black Doves.
