Keira Knightley and Katie Holmes Made Winter’s Most Over-the-Top Trend Totally Wearable

Winter hasn’t even officially started, but the season already has an It item. Over-the-top fuzzy coats, a loud style that once might have been considered gaudy, are now in every celebrity’s closet—just look to Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Johnson, and Angelina Jolie. But if making that much of a statement is a little outside of your comfort zone, there’s a more subtle version Keira Knightley and Katie Holmes have worn.
Rather than going all-in on the trend, both actresses have been spotted wearing coats that integrate the cozy material in a more low-key way, opting for shearling-lined and -trimmed styles. Knightley wore a roomy moto jacket with a fuzzy black trim that gave her white dress a cool edge, while Holmes’s oversized boho style brought a bit more drama to her look. Their jackets were winter-ready, stylish, and not quite as ‘look-at-me’ as this season's trending fur coat (though, Holmes’s was definitely pushing it).

Holmes’s coat had extra-fuzzy white shearling against a black base, while this one takes a monochromatic approach, opting for trimmed black shearling at the collar and sleeves.

This chocolate brown version is my favorite, but if you hurry, there are still a few sizes left in the classic black.
Fuzzy coats are already everywhere, so don’t be surprised when they become 2025’s hottest style. While the style is inherently dramatic, there’s a more wearable way to rock the trend that both Knightley and Holmes have opted for.
