Keir Starmer's new pet Larry the Cat's hilarious response to Labour's General Election win
Labour has won the General Election, meaning the UK will see a non-Conservative government for the first time in 14 years - and Downing Street's Larry the Cat has got something to say about it.
Larry, Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, has been in the position since February 15, 2011. He has official duties as well, with the Downing Street website stating he "spends his days greeting guests to the house, inspecting security defences and testing antique furniture for napping quality - sounds ideal.
He's set to remain in position as well, even when Rishi Sunak leaves, as he's part of the Civil Service. Little Larry had a savage dig at his own 'press conference' when he learned the news the Tories were out.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Larry penned: "The people have spoken and what they've said is mainly swear words aimed at the Tories" with a picture of him standing at a podium - and the comments did not disappoint.
Someone joked: "I bet now Sunak is gone you'll be upgraded from the cheap brand cat food to Sheeba, and quite rightly after what you've put up with."
"You'll always be my prime meowinster", another penned, with a person asking: "Does the newbie [Kier Starmer] like cats?"
Other hilarious comments included: "I hope you are having a good wash to welcome your new housemates. Don't forget in between the toes", "But how many voted for Larry?", "With f**k off being the most common one", "Congratulations on your new lodger, Larry", "Can we get your help in the States Larry?", and "Let's hope they buy you some fresh Dreamies on their way in".
"His day-to-day responsibilities also include contemplating a solution to the mouse occupancy of the house. Larry says this is still 'in tactical planning stage'", the Downing Street website reads.
He was rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and has been a beloved tenant of Number 10 ever since. As Larry is technically not owned by an individual, but by the staff of Downing Street, he won't be going anywhere. Civil servants serve the government of the day, so are not subject to the same electoral fluctuations as the Prime Minister.
Larry's food and upkeep are paid for by way of a collective kitty voluntarily funded by Downing Street staff.
