Keep Calm And Line Up The Glasses: Slimline Prosecco Is Now A Thing

It’s a great day to be alive. [Photo: Giphy]

We thought it was the best day ever when anti-ageing gin landed on our desks, but this new launch may’ve topped it.

Yes, ladies and gentleman, slimline prosecco has arrived and we can’t stop grinning. Prosecco has never been more popular (the UK went into melt-down mode when a national shortage of the Italian fizz was declared a year ago) and the increasing sales show just what a favourite tipple it is. It’s cheaper than champagne, tastes better and serves as a fantastic celebratory beverage.

The only downside is that it’s not exactly healthy. Well, it’s not at all healthy. Aside from the fact it contains alcohol, it’s bursting with sugar, too. A typical 5-ounce serving of prosecco contains approximately 108 calories, 5.4 per cent of daily caloric needs - and how many of us stop at one glass of the stuff?

All hail Skinny Prosecco. [Photo: Selfridges]

That’s why “diet” prosecco, as it’s being dubbed, is such wonderful news. The brainchild of Thomson & Son, the “low calorie and no sugar luxury drink specialist”, the booze will be exclusively available at Selfridges. But that doesn’t mean it’s expensive. In fact a bottle of the stuff will only set you back £17.99, which might be double the price you pay in Sainsbury’s but it’s half as bad for you. And it’s still a darn sight cheaper than champers.

It contains 67 calories per glass, and has just seveb grams of sugar per litre, which is about 30 per cent less than regular prosecs.

The bad news? Selfridge’s “skinny” prosecco is currently out of stock, but we hazard a guess it will soon be available again.

Watch this space.
