Kate Winslet's new six-part series The Regime has received a release date and a first look trailer.

Formerly known as The Palace, the story takes place "within the walls of the palace of a modern European, authoritarian regime" that is very much on the "cusp of crumbling to the ground."

The Regime will premiere on HBO and streaming service Max on March 3, 2024. The series will also air on Sky and be available to stream on NOW in the UK, with an exact release yet to be confirmed.

Kate Winslet stars as the country's authoritarian Chancellor, with Matthias Schoenaerts playing her right-hand man. In the trailer we're introduced to the Chancellor, who's looking to secure her grip on power and her nation's place on the world stage.

"Since I became your Chancellor, we have grown considerably as a country. It is time to show America and the world precisely what we are worth," she tells her people on one clip.

We then see the relationship between Winslet's Chancellor and Schoenaerts' character, a loyal solider turned close confidant. "You're here because you're a nobody. You're not anybody and that means I can trust you," she tells him in another clip.

Elsewhere, we get a glimpse of Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton and Hugh Grant's characters, while the Chancellor can be seen in tense political meetings and enjoying the trappings of power.

There's also the threat of political turmoil looming, ready to tear the entire regime apart.

The Regime has been created by The Menu and Succession writer Will Tracy, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer.

Stephen Frears (A Very English Scandal) and Jessica Hobbs directed the series, with the pair also executive produced the series alongside Tracy, Winslet, Frank Rich and Tracey Seaward.

The Regime premieres on March 3 on HBO in the US.
