Kate Middleton's tribute to the late Queen with special earrings at Cenotaph event
All eyes were on Kate Middleton when she arrived at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday yesterday with her husband Prince William. Marking the first time the Princess of Wales has carried out official Royal engagements on consecutive days since last December, Kate opted for some rather sentimental jewellery.
Her choice of pearl earrings worn to the Cenotaph paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II as they belonged to the late monarch and were her gemstone of choice - pearls. Alongside a black coat, headpiece and three poppies for Remembrance Day, Kate finished off the look with the Queen's Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, which the Queen had previously loaned to her after being gifted them for her wedding in 1947.
This isn't the first time Kate has worn these earrings on such a sentimental occasion as she also opted for them at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

On Kate's coat were three red poppies, often rumoured to be in honour of her great-grandmother’s three brothers, who all lost their lives in the First World War. She also wore her silver Queen’s Dragoon Guards brooch – in a nod to her role as the regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief – beneath her poppies.
As the nation was led by King Charles in commemorating those lost in conflict, Kate and and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh were seen sharing a touching moment at the end of the Remembrance Sunday service. Sophie was spotted affectionately placing a hand on Kate's back in a comforting gesture as they turned to head inside at the end of the solemn service.
The Royal ladies observed the ceremony from the central balcony of the Foreign Office with Kate's rare appearance being is a sign of her gradual return to duties following her cancer diagnosis. In the absence of Queen Camilla, who is recuperating at home with a chest infection, Kate, a future queen consort herself, was due to take to the central balcony alone. However Sophie was switched from her originally planned position with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester on a neighbouring balcony to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Kate in support.
It is the first time Kate has carried out two consecutive days of public official engagements this year, with the princess attending the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, Charles, donning his Royal Navy uniform as Admiral of the Fleet, paid tribute at the Cenotaph before saluting the war memorial. Kate's husband, Prince William, dressed in his Royal Air Force uniform as Wing Commander, followed suit, laying his own wreath.
