From Cosmopolitan

  • The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, wore a frothy white Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress to attend a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace overnight

  • Kate wore a layered white tulle gown paired with Princess Diana's favourite Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara for the dinner to mark Donald Trump's State Visit to the UK

Donald Trump's visit to the UK has already made headlines for a slew of reasons, with all the biggest royals (bar Meghan Markle) agreeing to meet the US President. Naturally, with only one Duchess in attendance for such a significant occasion, all eyes were on Kate and yup, she made one helluva entrance.

The royal stepped out at Buckingham Palace wearing a dress that paid homage to her iconic wedding dress: an ivory gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen - the same designer who created the Duchess' bridal look.

Unlike her wedding gown, however, last night's dress had capped sleeves and swapped the sheer lace panels for cascading rows of tulle (a big 2019 wedding dress trend). Um, NICE.

The look was finished with equally incred accessories, with the Duchess giving a sweet nod to Princess Diana by wearing her late mother-in-law's favourite tiara: the Cambridge Lover's Knot.

The final touch? A pair of the Queen Mother's sapphire and diamond earrings, which perfectly match her heirloom engagement ring passed down from Diana to Prince William.

Ugh, we love everything about this look. Given the dress is designed by the exact same woman who created Kate's famous wedding dress, this could've been the look Kate wore at the royal wedding instead - cool huh? Guess it's all just a matter of timing.
