Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II melt hearts by sharing a blanket on their joint royal outing: 'Cutest thing ever'

It's been eight months since Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth II took their royal act on the road, joining forces for a trip to Cheshire, England last June.

Now it's Kate Middleton's turn.

Though the duchess has previously hosted events with her grandmother-in-law and joined her and Prince Philip for a 2012 visit to Leicester, Tuesday's appearance at Kings College London marks her first time having a solo outing with the monarch.

While Kate's wardrobe typically makes headlines, it was the queen's time to shine as the pair opened the Bush House education centre at the London university. After wearing neon green for her June road trip with Meghan, Her Majesty once again opted for a bold monochrome look, looking pretty in pink in a rosy Stewart Parvin cashmere coat paired with a matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan.

By contrast, Kate went with a more demure outfit, stepping out in a grey coat dress from Catherine Walker, black Mulberry clutch and Lock & Co. hat.

Compared to her day out with Meghan, during which both women were photographed bursting into laughter, the queen was composed and straight-faced. But royal-watchers couldn't help but notice a sweet show of affection between her and Kate: During their car journey, they appeared to share a blue blanket spread across their laps.

The tender gesture delighted royal fans.

Hey, even royals have to share sometimes.
