Now, Kate is following in Diana's footsteps and is building on the work and support that the late princess devoted much of her last years of living to, as she has been name a patron of the hospice. In 1997, her father-in-law King Charles became a patron of the hospice, shortly after Diana's death, however, he is no longer a patron.
During the Princess of Wales' visit, she spent the morning with the children who stay at the hospice, as well as their families. Later on, she participated in a 'stay and play' session whereby she took part in several activities and play time with the kids. As well as this, she took the time to meet bereaved families whose children were supported by the hospice, and are still recieving support themselves following their deaths.
Speaking of the princesses' visit, Irfon Rees, Chief Executive of Tŷ Hafan, gave a statement expressing that he was 'deeply honoured' that Kate has now become a patron.
'As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us,' she stated.
'No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone.'
