The Duchess of Cambridge made an unannounced appearance at her ‘Back to Nature’ garden on Monday morning, ahead of the Chelsea Flower Show.

Kate, 37, showed some local schoolchildren around the space she co-designed with award-winning landscape architects Andrée Davies and Adam White.

The mum-of-three got stuck in as she climbed the garden’s centrepiece, a high platform treehouse, complete with a swing seat.

She also joined the children as they toasted marshmallows around the camp fire and shared her favourite childhood memory of the great outdoors - boulder hopping in the Lake District.

The duchess donned a smart-casual outfit for the visit - a broderie anglaise shirt by M.i.h Jeans, with camel culottes from Massimo Dutti and her Superga 2750 Cotu trainers.

She accessorised with her Monica Vinader green onyx earrings.

The Duchess told Monty Don in an interview for the BBC, to be aired on Monday night: “I really feel that nature and being interactive outdoors has huge benefits on our physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young children.

“I really hope that this woodland that we have created really inspires families, kids and communities to get outside, enjoy nature and the outdoors, and spend quality time together.”

On Sunday afternoon, Kate brought her young family to the show at Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Kensington Palace released a series of photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four and one-year-old Louis as they explored the garden.

The family of five look relaxed as they gathered sticks, dipped their toes in the pond and tried out the seat swing.

It was revealed that the three children have helped their mum gather moss, leaves and twigs to help decorate the space. Hazel sticks collected by the family were also used to make the garden’s den.

Footage from the visit also shows that Louis is now walking, as he toddles towards the camera, while George and Charlotte excitedly run around the different areas.
