Springwatch's Kate Humble has regularly opened up about her decision to remain child-free, but now the TV presenter has revealed just how anxious she felt at the prospect of starting a family.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the 48-year-old explained that she had suffered a 'panic attack' when she and her 55-year-old husband, Ludo Graham, discussed the possibility of having children.

'[I had] what I can only describe as a panic attack,' she said.

The couple, who have been married for 25 years, had always known they didn't want children but decided to discuss what they would do if one of them later changed their mind after repeatedly having their decision questioned, Stylist reports.

During their chat, Kate revealed she tried to picture herself in the role of mother but quickly felt anxious at the mere prospect.

'I broke down in tears and said: "I cannot do it",' she added. 'It was kind of a primeval response [and] I don't know where it came from.

'It was so strong, and that was the moment that I thought: "I'm never going to change my mind."'

This is not the first time that Kate has discussed her feelings about motherhood. Speaking to The Mirror in March, she revealed that she had known she wouldn't want kids at the age of just 14.

'I don't think I had even started my periods and I knew it wasn't something I wanted to do,' she said.

'It was as fundamental as somebody saying, "I knew I was gay when I was a young teenager" or "I knew I was transgender".'
