K.Stew Rebels Against Cannes' Heels Rule
Cannes Film Festival high heel protester Kristen Stewart made another statement tonight against the festival's controversial red carpet flats ban. She posed on the carpet for tonight's Blackkklansman screening in a pair of black Christan Louboutin stilettos. Then when the main photos were done, she proceeded to take the heels off in front of the photographers and climb up the red carpet steps with her bare feet. The message: K.Stew still doesn't give a f*ck about Cannes' rules. Cannes' photographers took many, many photos of her making that point:
Stewart had her first footwear rebellion in 2016 when she switched from comfy black sneakers into her silver heels just for the photo call. She gave the finger during the photos, just to make her feelings about the shoes extra clear.
She also told a reporter the week before that 2016 protest that the Cannes' policy was sexist. "Things have to change immediately. It has become really obvious that if [a man and I] were walking the red carpet together and someone stopped me and said, 'Excuse me, young lady, you're not wearing heels. You cannot come in.' Then [I'm going to say], 'Neither is my friend. Does he have to wear heels?' It can work both ways. It's just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version-flats or heels."
Stewart isn't the only actress to speak out against the festival's rules on women's attire. Emily Blunt also called out the festival's policy back in 2015. "I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest," she told a reporter then. "We shouldn't wear high heels anymore. That's just my point of view. I prefer to wear Converse sneakers."
