This And Just Like That update might seal Carrie’s fate
It’s the age-old question many diehard Sex And The City fans can’t help but wonder: forget Mr Big, is Aidan actually the one that got away? Well, if the new announcement for season 3 of And Just Like That… is anything to go by, it most definitely could suggest that yes, he is.
When we left Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her rekindled flame Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) in season two, Aidan told Carrie that, despite their romantic reunion, he needed to take some time to focus on his children. And while those who were always Team Aidan over Team Big are holding out hope that Carrie and Aidan could still be endgame, the return of one certain character could suggest otherwise.
Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that Aidan’s ex-wife, Kathy (Rosemarie DeWitt), is set to return for the new season, which could be the final nail in the coffin for Carrie and Aidan.
“The Carrie-Aidan relationship is dramatic and exciting because it contains two points of view,” said Michael. “I think half the fans who do not want Carrie to be in a relationship will be like, ‘Enough!’ The other half will understand that when you love somebody, what comes with them is their family.”
However, the extent to what “family” of Aidan’s will crop up is yet to be seen. “It’s an interesting thing when you have Carrie Bradshaw in love figuring out how to make this work when, at a certain age, everyone has a past. There are a couple of booby traps in the Carrie-Aidan history that we’re very aware of, as well,” Michael continued.
Who else can we expect to see in And Just Like That season 3?
Season 3 will, of course, see the return of the fabulous Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, alongside Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker and John Corbett. Other stars joining the cast are:
Rosemarie DeWitt as Kathy
Cathy Ang as Lily Goldenblatt
Mario Cantone as Anthony Marentino
Niall Cunningham as Brady Hobbes
David Eigenberg as Steve Brady
Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt
Christopher Jackson as Herbert Wexley
Sebastiano Pigazzi as Giuseppe
Alexa Swinton as Rock Goldenblatt
Dolly Wells as Joy
Rosie O’Donnell as Mary
What can we expect from season 3?
With a new season comes new beginnings, with Carrie and Miranda moving into new homes with new challenges. And it wouldn’t be And Just Like That… without new (and old) love – which Michael assures fans there is “lots” of, as well as “new obstacles for old loves”.
Michael also confirmed that Carrie’s narration is making a comeback in season 3: “Carrie’s actually writing a new book and the voiceover is the way into the book.”
Those not returning include Miranda’s ex Che Diaz (Sara Ramírez) and Columbia law school professor Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman). “We just moved forward because that's what happens in New York City or in life. Sometimes you see someone who is so important to you and then you don't see them again for 10 years,” Michael said.
Where did we leave off in season 2?
Last season left us at Carrie’s farewell dinner party before her big move to Gramercy Park – except Aidan asks for a five-year break to spend with his children. “The first question I said to everybody was, ‘What exactly did Carrie agree to?’” Michael recalled. “When I knew there was still a gray area, I knew that we had a potential great field to plow and figure out.”
Elsewhere in season 2, Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) came to terms with her recent miscarriage while real estate broker Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) made progress with her movie director boyfriend, Ravi Gordi (Armin Amiri). Meanwhile, Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone) passed new milestones with his boyfriend, Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi).
How can I watch And Just Like That... S3?
